GLOBE-TROTTER is a luxury travel goods brand producing handcrafted luggage and leather collections. Established in 1897 its suitcases and travel accessories are handcrafted in Hertfordshire, England using original manufacturing methods and machinery that date back to the Victorian era.

THUNKGOOD developed a short animated film entitled 'The Elephant Trail' and an in-store VM concept for the brand to tie in with Paddington Bear's 50th anniversary. Paddington is famous for his old hat, his battered suitcase, his duffle coat and his love of marmalade. Despite hailing from Deepest Peru, he is an icon of Englishness, with his impeccable politeness and his habit of righting wrongs.

The narrative for the animated film centred around Paddington visiting the Globe-Trotter shop in London to replace his tatty old suitcase. The concept extended through to both marketing and product with a window display replicating the distinctive look of the 1970's Paddington TV series, with its characteristic 2-D hand-drawn backgrounds and 3-D bear in foreground.

A limited edition Paddington Globe-Trotter suitcase was to be developed, complete with marmalade orange lining with Filmfair style drawings of marmalade jars. The cases were to feature Paddington's famed 'secret compartment', enabling the case to hold more items that it would at first appear. A kids suitcase was also proposed, merchandised alongside a child's Gloverall duffle coat and Hunter wellies. These items would be sold as a limited edition set.

The ultimate execution of this concept would be the commissioning of a 4-minute animated Paddington film shot in the original 1970's Filmfair style. The film would generate millions of Youtube hits and go viral as the first 'original' Paddington cartoon in over 40 years.
